On the 13th October 4 midwives went out to Sierra Leone to deliver training to 78 midwives – 35 from Waterloo and 43 from the Capital City, Freetown. Each midwife received a fob watch, lanyard, hand cream, scissors, Alco gel and a few other things. The Midwives were sent out along with some 54,000 misoprostol tablets, hand knitted baby clothes from our generous donors, birthing kits, Blood Pressure machines, birthing balls, Ambu bags, Pinards and Partograms.
They trained the women to deal with issues like breach birth, new born baby resuscitation, haemorrhaging and how to use certain devices such as the penguin suction device intended for removal of fluid from a new born baby’s nasal and oral cavities.
